ABC Challenge - Week 1

Happy Easter!

Today starts the first week of the ABC Nail Art Challenge hosted by Erica's Nails and More.  Each week you are to use either a polish name, brand name, or nail art style using the designated letter.  And nail art is strongly encouraged each week!

And as you would expect, the first week is the letter A!  I have slowly but surely started working on stash list so that I could start planning ahead for this challenge.  Fortunately, I did have a few A-named polishes in the ones I have gone through so far.

This is Attract, one of the LA Girls Magnetic polishes.  My boyfriend found this beauty in the clearance bin at Dollar General.  Attract is a beautiful plum purple, and when the magnet is added, black shows up due to the magnetic particles.

Here is the shape of the magnet, another design I don't have!  This is definitely my new favorite of the three magnet designs I have between the LA Girls and Sinful Color magnetic polishes I have.  I have previously reviewed another LA Girls magnetic polish, Magnetized, here.  I also have two Sinful Colors magnetic polishes, but so far only one, Polar Opposites, has made it on the blog.

And in case you had any doubts, here is the proof that this polish is named Attract!  The only part I struggled with was figuring out what direction the design on the magnet was!  That's why each nails has the design in a different direction.

The design on my nubby right-hand thumb I thought was one of the best of all of the nails.  It wasn't centered on the nail, but I thought it looked really cool and produced a very different effect than any other magnetic polish I've tried.

I am thoroughly impressed with wear time of this polish as well.  Four days and only minor tip wear!  I didn't have any chips until day five.  I did put a layer of topcoat over this polish.

If you are interested in joining this challenge, please do!  You don't have to participate every week, just when you have time.  Just make sure you post your picture to Erica's Facebook page.  Oh, and you don't have to have a blog - anyone can participate!  I hope you stick around for as many of the 26 weeks as I can manage!

Rimmel Hard Metal

Today, I bring you my Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro polish - Hard Metal!  I am in LOVE with this color and brand.  I wore this polish for over a week and no chips!!  I will definitely be investing in more of these polishes.  This is currently the only Rimmel I have.  My boyfriend picked it out for me for Christmas.  And I just have to say this is a standout favorite!

Hard Metal is a blue-grey color, with a slightly metallic finish.  Its a little bit more forgiving than a regular metallic polish since the ridges were my nails peel aren't too obvious (see index finger).  You can still see the ridges...but it wasn't too bad.

The tip wear in these pictures is after four days.  Yes - four days!  If you are looking for a long-wearing polish, you should definitely try out Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro.  Even though it says 10 days, I took it off after 8 due to tip wear.  But it really didn't look that bad!  This was a one coater!  And no topcoat!

Hard Metal was a dark, blur-grey polish with blue, green, and purple flecks in it, which you can definitely see the in below macro image.

I love this polish!  Definitely one my favorite new-to-me polishes for 2013!  It's such a multi-dimensional polish with great wear.  I am really interested in picking up a few more of these Lasting Finish Pro polishes.

Check back tomorrow as I will be beginning the ABC Challenge, hosted by Erica's Nails and More!

Metallic Mishmash Mani

So I was trying to use some of my untrieds together for this mani.  I ended up picking out Sally Hansen Pumping Iron, Sally Hansen Sage Smash (green glitter crackle), and Spoiled Jewelry Heist, hoping they would at least sort of go together!  I wasn't sure how I would use Sage Smash, but since it doesn't scream crackle polish in this mani, it ended up not being so bad.

I wasn't exactly sure how it would turn out, but I actually like it!  It's very metallic-y and sparkley, the pictures just don't do it justice.  You can see more of the sparkle in the below picture, particularly on the thumb since it is out of focus compared to the rest of the picture.

And here is the mani in direct sunlight.  The green crackle gives a very different look to the metallic silver of Pumping Iron, which I thought was cool.  Maybe over white, the crackle would be more noticeable.

Jewelry Heist is a unique polish as well.  I'l like to layer it over black or maybe a blue/teal color.  I think the black would really help make the colored glitter pop.  Jewelry Heist is composed of large metallic pink hex glitter, fine green glitter (which mostly blended in with the crackle), small teal hex glitters.

Overall, I don't mind the combination of the three polishes in this mani.  I was tentative at first, but I like the final results.  What do you think of the end result?  It's definitely different, but different in a good way?

Belated Giveaway Prize Post!

I won a giveaway back in January...and am just now getting around to posting about it - I know - horrible!  Back in December was Becky of Naked Without Polish's birthday.  She hosted a giveaway in honor of her birthday and I was lucky enough to be one of the winners!

Due to extenuating circumstances she wasn't able to mail out our prizes until late January...and coincidentally mine arrived the day before my birthday!  (Which is funny because it was a "birthday" giveaway.)  Anywho, below are the pics of the awesome polishes I won.

I have the entire LynBDesigns Hometown Holiday Collection in minis, as well as the Limited Edition Maybelline Color Show polish, Sea-quins, and finally Hard Candy Beetle.

From left to right, they are Trimmed out Tree, Reindeer Games, Snowball Fight, Christmas Kitsch, and Ugly Sweater Party.

I'm super excited about Beetle!  I have picked it up so many times but never purchased it.  And now apparently it's hard to come by since Hard Candy just released all new collections and bottles.  I've also oggled from a distance at the MCS Sequins polishes as they never showed up in any of my local stores.

Becky included a drawing her daughter Maggie did to make up for the delay in shipping.  Too cute! :)

So far I have used two of the LynBDesigns polishes, both of which were during the February Nail Art Challenge.  For the rainbow skittle mani I used Christmas Kitsch, and for my Valentine's Day mani I used Snowball Fight.  I did fish the red hearts out of Reindeer Games to do the accent nail, if that counts, lol.

Thank you again for the lovely prize Becky!  I look forward to using all my polishes! :)

February Nail Art Challenge Recap!

Hello!  I know I've been MIA lately between vacation and work drama I haven't had time to post!  I have been polishing my nails regularly, so hopefully I'll be able to bring you all some manis in the coming weeks!  The February 9-Day Nail Art Challenge hosted by Erica's Nails and More has to have been my favorite of the three I've participated in.  I am really proud of all the manis I created and love knowing that my skills have vastly improved since my first challenge back in September.  I  look forward to doing more nail art in the future, but for the time being, let's look back at the manis I did for the February Nail Art Challenge.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my Day 9 mani, I had chosen to do another polka dot mani.  Polka dots and dotticures are my favorite form of nail art just because its easy and its ok if its not perfect!  I love the combination I used on Day 9.

I also wanted to list all the untrieds I used in this challenge.  Erica is on a no-buy for 2013 and encouraged the challenge participants to use as many untrieds as possible.  So here is my list:

China Glaze - Magical
Color Club - Glitter Envy
Color Club - Otherworldly
Color Club - Ultra Astral
Color Club - Wink, Wink, Twinkle
Color Club - You Got Soul-ar
Finger Paints - Go Van Gogh!
LA Colors Art Deco - Teal Glitter
LynBDesigns - Christmas Kitsch
LynBDesigns - Snowball Fight
Milani - HD
NYC Color - Taxi Yellow
Sally Hansen - Limestone
Sally Hansen - Pumping Iron
Sephora by OPI - What Aura Gonna Wear
Zoya - Demi
Zoya - Robyn
Zoya - Storm

I proudly used at least one untried in each mani - YAY!
