Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Blue Chevrons

Last year when my boyfriend still worked at Target, he had picked up a Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear trio for me.  The polishes included were Blue Me Away, Sea-ly String, and Breezy Blue.  For today's mani, I decided to use chevron nail vinyls from Nails Redesigned to create a blue monochrome pattern using Blue Me Away and Breezy Blue.

I started with a base of Breezy Blue.  Let me tell you, this polish was a pain in the butt.  It was streaky on the first two coats, and eventually took four to be opaque.  Normally, I wouldn't have worried so much about it being opaque as the base color, but you could clearly still see the streaks in the previous coats due to how sheer the polish was.  Once dry, I added a coat of Seche Vite.

I then applied the nail vinyls and layered one coat of Blue Me Away on top.  Unlike her shimmery, pastel sister, Blue Me Away is a gorgeous one-coater creme.  I will definitely be using Blue Me Away again - the color is super vibrant and gorgeous!

Unfortunately, I didn't wait quite long enough to apply the nail vinyls and I peeled off most of Breezy Blue on my index an middle finger nails when removing the polish.  I went back in with my dotting tool and reapplied Breezy Blue before applying topcoat.  So that's why the lines aren't as crisp on those nails.

Otherwise, this is a super gorgeous mani in my opinion!  Blue is one of my favorite colors, but I rarely wear it on my nails, except for my Gator manis.  I hope everyone has a great weekend - I know I will because I'll be celebrating my 26th birthday tomorrow!  Oh, and go Seahawks!

Christian Louboutin Rouge Red

Today I have the swatches of the limited edition Christian Louboutin Rouge Red!  This was definitely one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year!  My boyfriend got it for me, and I never even mentioned it to him ever, because I thought it was too expensive and I would never own it.  You first saw Rouge Red on the blog last Friday in my #HePicksMyPolish post.

The formula on Rouge Red was impeccable!  Which you would expect with such an expensive polish.  Shown is two coats of Rouge Red and one coat of Seche Vite.  Though it was very shiny on its own, it really didn't need topcoat.  I added to aid in wear and dry time.  Wear time wasn't as long as I was hoping, but there were no chips and only tip wear.

This polish is definitely pinnacle piece on my collection.  And I told my boyfriend not to get me any Louboutins!  I'm glad I have the limited edition Rouge Red, but in my opinion they're too expensive to have too many!  I still like to get polishes on sale, and don't like spending too much!  Old habits die hard!

L'Oreal Masked Affair

Yes, I succumbed to the hype and sought out Masked Affair.  Last Sunday, I went to three Walgreens before finally finding Masked Affair.  My boyfriend thought I was crazy, but even he gave in and went to the third Walgreens after I decided I didn't care anymore (we were running errands and the first two we stopped at weren't out of the way).  Then, low and behold, and complete display, with two of each color remaining, but I behaved and just picked up Masked Affair.

This polish is so gorgeous and definitely worth the hunt - even if the formula is horrible!  What you see in these pics, is four coats.  Yes, four.  And each coat was streaky until the fourth.  I've had polishes be streaky on the first and even second coats, but I couldn't believe it was still streaky on the third.  I've read other reviews of folks having the same problem, so at least I'm not the only one.  I loaded up the brush with polish for the fourth and final coat, and was finally able to level everything out.

I'm not a connoisseur of indie holos, as much as I would like to be (I simply can't afford it), but when I can get my hands on a beautiful one for less then $10, I had to jump on it!  This really is such a gorgeous polish.  Even in the shade, when it appeared a very light lavender color, it was beautiful, even though the holo effect wasn't obvious.  I'm glad I picked this up, but it definitely makes you work for the results!

#HePicksMyPolish - January 2015

Hello!  I apologize for the lack of posts this week, I've come down with a terrible cold and have evened missed a day of work.  Hopefully in the next few days, I will start to feel better, so that I can get back on a regular posting schedule.

For this month's #HePicksMyPolish, my boyfriend selected polishes and nail vinyls that he gave me for Christmas for me to use in this mani.  The polishes he chose were Azature Platinum Diamond and the lovely Christian Louboutin Rouge Red!  Yes, Rouge Red, people!  I won't gush too much about it, since I'll likely have a review up on it next week.

I started with a base of Rouge Red, and then applied a coat of Seche Vite to speed up the drying process.  Then using the lightning bolt nail vinyls from Nails Redesigned, I added a sparkly lightning bolt on each nail using Platinum Diamond.  These nail vinyls are made from a special transparent vinyl to aid in placing it straight!  It was super cool, and I had no idea until I started using them.  Here is a direct link to the lightning bolt vinyls if you're interested!

Overall, I love this mani!  These are definitely my two favorite polishes I got for Christmas, and it was great he had me use them together!  Unfortunately, several of my favorite pics of this mani were corrupted, so I'm not super excited about what I had to show you here, but believe me, it was very awesome in real life!

Azature Eucalyptus Diamond and Wine Diamond

I was originally going to save this post for tomorrow, but I have more down time today than I anticipated, so here I am!  Today, I have two more Azature polishes to show you, Eucalyptus Diamond and Wine Diamond.  You can see swatches of Blue Diamond and Platinum Diamond in this post from earlier this month.  My boyfriend got me five Azature polishes for Christmas.  The remaining polish, Midnight Diamond, will be used on the blog later this week.  Unlike the other Azatures I received, Midnight Diamond is a creme polish.

First up is Eucalyptus Diamond.  My boyfriend picked this one out because it matched my "ugly shirt."  I have a shirt that is about this color that has a black mesh overlay, which he hates - but I love it so I keep wearing it.  Eucalyptus Diamond had a great formula, and was nearly a one-coater.

Next up is Wine Diamond.  In real life, this polish is beautiful; my pictures don't do it justice.  It has the same formula as Blue Diamond, and went on effortlessly.  This polish is super sparkly and beautiful.

Overall, these polishes are gorgeous and I am so glad my boyfriend picked them out for me.  I everyone who has they day off today is having a nice long weekend, and I am looking forward to a short week when I go back to work tomorrow!

CYNA Winnie the Pooh Challenge: Favorite Character

Today's prompt is the one I am most excited about - your favorite Winnie the Pooh character!  My favorite character is Tigger!   I have never done tiger print nails, so I decided to do that as my nails inspired by Tigger!  Also, this is a pic heavy post, that's how much I like this mani!

For this mani, I started with a base of Nicole by OPI Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary.  I then sponged a gradient of China Glaze White on White and Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary.  Once dry, I used a black striper polish to add the tiger stripes and finished with a matte topcoat.

I love the way this mani turned out!  This is definitely my favorite of the three prompts for the Winnie the Pooh Challenge Your Nail Art challenge.  I enjoyed doing these prompts and look forward to February's!

CYNA Winnie the Pooh Challenge: The Woods

Today is day two of the Winnie the Pooh challenge for this month's Challenge Your Nail Art theme.  Our prompt today is "The Woods," referring to the Hundred Acre Woods where Pooh Bear and his friends live.  Unfortunately, I don't have a tree stamp (only a Christmas tree!), so I am doing some more freehanding for this mani.

I started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff.  I then used a variation on the nimbus nail art technique to sponge on the green for the trees.  I used Sally Hansen Limestone and Sea Through to create the trees.  I then added the trunk and limbs using a black striper nail polish.

This is definitely not my best work, but it fits the challenge.  I am working on getting back into a regular nail art groove after the holidays, so I really put pressure on myself to do this challenge!  I know I haven't posted much this week prior to this challenge, but I've been working on building up material for the next few weeks.

CYNA Winnie the Pooh Challenge: Bees and Honey

Happy Friday!  Today is the first day of the January Challenge Your Nail Art (CYNA) themes!  Winnie the Pooh Day is January 19, so we are doing Pooh themed prompts for the challenges!

Since today's theme is Bees and Honey, I decided to do a bit of freehand nail art over one of my Christmas presents: Zoya Tomoko.  I started with two coats of Tomoko, once dry I used Sinful Colors Black on Black, a small dotting tool, and a fine paint brush to create the bee.  I then used China Glaze White on White to color the bee's wings.

Overall, it was a simple and very cute manicure!  I am pleasantly surprised with the way this turned out, since I'm not the greatest at freehand.  You'll actually see freehand all three days of this challenge from me!  Be sure to check out the other manis below, as well as check back the next two days for the next two prompts!

My Top 10 Nail Art Picks of 2014

Happy Friday!  I decided I wanted to pick my top ten personal favorites from all my nail art in 2014, just to see how it differed from my top ten most popular posts.  While there are a few repeats, it isn't as many as I would have expected!  Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my favorite manis from 2014.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will be back next week with some new material!
